In my experience, I do shoot interview video before but not as long as this. Besides, this time round, I am shooting the interview video in a dark backdrop with the founder of Time Aspect Photography Victor Koh.

Equipment Required:

  • Camera
  • Mic
  • Black backdrop
  • Ring light (The round light in front of Victor)
  • Portable LED light (The small square light at the back of Victor)
  • Chair
Setup
Camera Settings

For the camera settings, I set it as Full HD 1920 X 1080, 23.976 fps. So the shutter speed will be double the frame of the fps, which is 1/50. This can cause the video will have a smooth motion blur upon the people’s movements. I will keep the ISO as low as possible because if ISO is too high, the noise will appear in the video. The aperture is fine to stay in f/3.5-f/5.6 as the background is purely black, means no depth of field(It also depends on the sharpness, and the exposure you want).

Screenshot from the Video:

The reason why am I using the ring light is to let Victor’s eyes to have the white ring (eyes shining). Besides the brightness of the ring light is pretty good, so the camera’s ISO need not be too high. The portable LED light located at the back of Victor also let Victor stands out of the black backdrop. As you can see, the area around Victor’s face to shoulder is cover with white light.
