In this post, I am going to undergo an experiment in Ring Photography, which I have not tried before. The reason for me doing this experiment as I am curious about how the weddings’ photo or video is shoot.
Equipment Required:
- Black Leather Chair
- Rings
- Camera: Canon EOS 70D
- Lens: Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L IS USM Macro Lens
- Lights: Aputure MC Pocket LED RGBW Light & Apture M9

Walkthrough – Photography:
1. Place the ring on the black leather chair.
2. Settings for Camera – ISO: 100, Aperture: f/2.8, Shutter: 1/100sec (Camera setting might not be the same due to the environment’s lighting and the result you want.)
3. Play with the LED lights direction like placing it at the back left, and right or front left, and right. You can choose to use 1 LED or 2 LED. The result will be different. The first three photos are using 1 LED, and the fourth photo is using 2 LED. Besides, play with the LED lights colour.
4. Press your camera’s shutter!!!

ISO: 100
Aperture: f/2.8
Shutter: 1/100 sec.
ISO: 100
Aperture: f/2.8
Shutter: 1/100 sec.

ISO: 400
Aperture: f/11
Shutter: 1/50 sec.

ISO: 640
Aperture: f/8
Shutter: 1/80 sec.
Bonus:
You can also place the rings on a mirror in order to create a reflection. Other than that, can also play with the colour LED light. This photo was shine using 2 lights.

ISO: 1000
Aperture: f/2.8
Shutter: 1/60 sec.

Walkthrough – Videography:
The steps are almost the same with photography. The only difference is the lighting. For videography, I need to move the light from left to right in order to create the shine effect as the demo video.
Camera Settings – Resolution: Full HD 1080P 24FPS, ISO: 100, Aperture: f/2.8, Shutter: 1/50 sec. (Camera setting might not be the same due to the environment’s lighting and the result you want.)

After conducting a few experiments about macro photography, I realised that not only lens and camera are essential, lighting is also crucial too as it can bring your photo or video to another level.
